KANSAS CROP PROGRESS AND CONDITION
Showers last week over the US winter wheat belt improved drought conditions slightly, with the USDA crpop progress report showed a slight improvement in the very poor and poor and a slight improvement in the percent rated good/excellent. Winter wheat condition rated 11% very poor, 25% poor, 39% fair, 24% good, and 1% excellent, while the prior week they were 13% poor, 25% poor, 22% good, and 1% excellent. With heavier rains over much of the winter wheat belt yesterday into today, there’s likely to be further improvement when next week’s report is released. Although, improvements would have been more impressive if not for western Kansas not receiving nearly as much rain as eastern fields.
The USDA also reported subsoil moistures improved slightly with very short 32% and 40% this week compared to 38% very short and 36% short in last week’s release.
