US Hard Winter Wheat Belt Crop & Soil Conditions Improve Further Due to Recent Rains
Wednesday, March 30: Recent weather systems tracking across the US hard winter wheat belt have improved crop and soil conditions over the past few weeks. The latest USDA crop progress and conditions report for Kansas released March 28 showed the US winter wheat crop conditions improved from 11% very poor and 25% poor in the prior week’s report to 11% very poor and 21% poor. In addition, the good rating improved from 24% to 29% and the excellent rating from 1% to 3%. Subsoil moisture improved from 72% very short and short to 61% in the latest report, highlighting improved soil conditions as well.
Additional rains have since fallen over the past 24-hours, especially over eastern hard winter wheat fields, suggesting further improvements should be expected when next week’s update is released. US wheat prices have endured wild trade so far this week with strong selling yesterday on reports of improving talks between Russia and Ukraine, but then gained back losses after Russia failed to follow through and continued aggressively attacking Ukraine.
